v1 · Dec 2020 – Apr 2021 · Jekyll

Starting on Jekyll

The blog began on Jekyll with the Lagrange theme, close to how the theme shipped. Serif text in one column, with a large image above each post. The name in the header with a small “devlog” beside it comes from this theme, and it is still there today.

v2 · May 2021 – Apr 2024 · Gatsby

Rebuilt with Gatsby

I rebuilt the blog with Gatsby and kept the header from the Jekyll theme. The home page opened with a large round profile photo, and posts sat in a grid of thumbnails below it. This design lasted the longest, almost three years.

v3 · Apr 2024 – Sep 2026 · Gatsby, then Astro

A pastel background

A redesign on Gatsby 5 with Emotion, with a pastel gradient behind the header and a smaller profile photo. Timeline and Bookshelf got their own pages here. In February 2026 the blog moved to Astro but kept this look.

The current design

The gradient is gone and the header fits on one line, with search next to the menu. The home page has a coffee mug drawn in ASCII that slowly turns, and you can drag it around.

Most of the screenshots come from the code of each period, run again on my machine.
